Editorial Policy

Last updated: July 2026

VitalSignsReview is an evidence-based health journalism project. This page explains how we choose what to cover, how we report it, and how we handle sourcing, accuracy, and corrections. Our goal is simple: everything we publish should be checkable by you.

What We Cover

We report on published, peer-reviewed research and guidance from authoritative institutions in the areas of blood sugar and metabolism, heart and blood pressure health, sleep, stress, and healthy weight. We prioritize findings that are (a) grounded in credible research and (b) genuinely useful to a general reader.

Our Sources

We draw on primary and authoritative sources, including:

  • The NIH (National Institutes of Health) and its libraries and institutes (NCCIH, NHLBI, National Institute on Aging)
  • The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
  • Mayo Clinic and the American Heart Association
  • Peer-reviewed journals such as The Lancet, Annals of Internal Medicine, Diabetes Care, SLEEP Advances, and journals indexed on PubMed

How We Report

  1. We read the source. We base articles on the actual study or guideline, not on secondhand summaries alone.
  2. We cite everything. Every factual health claim links to a real, verifiable source. If a claim can’t be sourced, it doesn’t get published.
  3. We report honestly. When evidence is strong, we say so. When it’s mixed, weak, or preliminary, we say that too — even when a more dramatic claim would make a better headline.
  4. We don’t distort. We never turn “may help” into “cures,” and we don’t cherry-pick a single study over the weight of the evidence.
  5. We write it, we don’t copy it. Our summaries are written in our own words. We do not reproduce copyrighted article text or figures — we report the findings and link to the original.

What We Are Not

We are science communicators, not medical professionals, and we do not present our content as clinical advice or as medically reviewed by a licensed physician. Our credibility comes from transparent, accurate sourcing — not from a claim of clinical authority. See our Medical Disclaimer for what this means for you.

Independence

Our editorial reporting is independent of advertising and affiliate relationships. Sponsored placement or affiliate links never determine which studies we cover or how we characterize their findings. Any affiliate relationships are disclosed in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Corrections

We correct errors openly. If you spot an inaccuracy, or a source that has been updated or retracted, please tell us through our Contact page. When we make a substantive correction, we update the article. Accuracy matters more to us than being right the first time.

Pen Names

We use editorial pen names to protect the personal privacy of our contributors. This is a common and accepted practice in digital publishing, and it does not affect the accuracy of our reporting, which rests on verifiable sources. We explain this fully on our Transparency page.
